In
Christianity Explored we have looked at the world as it is and ourselves as we
are. We have set out, all off us in some way or another to try and relate to God
in a way which we know is unsatisfactory.
We have either ignored him or tried to use him or
else simply rebelled in open hostility.
God has responded in an unexpected way. He has
sent Jesus, his only Son into the world to show us what he is like so that we
can enter into friendship with him.
He has allowed him to die so that friendship can
be possible without sacrificing his purity or goodness.
He calls us to take stock of our position and to
turn away from independence and become friends again.
Jesus gives us new life! But what is this new
life going to be like?
In staying Alive
weeks we’ll try and see what the real story is: we’ll try to get to grips with
what living this new life involves, why it remains hard being a Christian, and
why we invariably find ourselves battling, rather than breezing through life.
Staying Alive is a course that we use as a follow up to Christianity Explored
which runs with a similar format. Written by Jeremy Middleton, the author traces
the first weeks and months of the young Christians walk with the Lord. He shows
how following Jesus Christ involves every believer in a battle, and he explored
the practical implications of that for everyday life.
